Looking back at the Stempniak vs. Steen and Colaiacovo trade

Just two months ago Cliff Fletcher pulled off his last trade as Leaf interim GM by moving out underachieving Carlo Colaiacovo and Alex Steen for a guy most of us have never heard of - Lee Stempniak. Two months later I have to admit Stempniak has been largely invisible for the Leafs. And the numbers confirm it.

Actually here’s something scary as an aside - Carlo Colaiacovo is the top scoring D man in St. Louis with 22 points, and he’s a +2 player, but he’s only playing around 18 minutes a game. He actually has 21 points in 41 games since joining the Blues. Alex Steen has 18 points in his 42 games since joining the Blues also, but he’s a -4. Either way, when you lump those two together, that’s 40 points in 42 games. Lee Stempniak has 20 points in 43 games since the deal, and a -4 rating.

Score one for John Davidson and St. Louis.
