Well the Aeros tournament opened up today on Friday the 13th. You would think we would clue in that things might go wrong. We didn't get on the ice until 30 minutes after the posted start time. Only the dead could be late for this one. First period we get a 5 on 3 powerplay in the first 2 minutes of the game and give up a short handed goal followed by a second short handed goal a minute later (hey we were only playing 5 on 4 at that point). We do come back tie the game up on two breakaways. On the first goal Maddie wrists one just under the crossbar. The second goal by Rebecca B. after she and one of the other Rebecca's play hot potato with the puck at the blue line for the longest time before deciding to finally try for a shot on net. In the third period Cambridge self destructs by taking 7 straight penalties including a misconduct for arguing with an official. At one point they had 4 players in the box and played 6 minutes 3 against 5. Well what can I say, our weakness is having a 2-man advantage. We may just decline a powerplay opportunity in the future. Final score 2-2.
After dinner, I get a call from the convener that the games are 55 minutes behind schedule and they would be running to the end of the contract ice before getting to our second game. The game has been rescheduled from the ghoulish hour of 10 pm in the evening to the ungodly hour of 7:30 am in the next morning. Of course by this time everyone had dispersed over the many lovely Scarborough strip malls. I left home at 2:30 and returned at 10:30 and all we got in was one game. Sigh...better go, 6 am will be here soon enough.
I'm moving!
